We have reported consistently in this journal Does God Exist? that the use of embryonic stem cells in stem cell research is misguided and unnecessary. Two new methods of producing stem cell colonies have been developed that do not involve embryonic tissue. One method used by researchers at MIT involves gene blocking, and the other takes a single cell from an embryo without disturbing it. In the October 2005 issue of Christianity Today (64) is a list of adult stem cell treatments now available. None of these depends on embryonic stem cells. As is the case with most problems, if humans seek the most ethical and moral ways of doing things, it turns out that those methods are usually also the most productive.
