The Newsletter of IBTM
with Douglas Jacoby

Good evening—and Howdy! I’m back from the Lone Star State. It was a great trip—the meetings, fellowship, and the Teleios Conference on Spirituality & Scripture.

In today’s bulletin, you’ll find a free book for all website members. I’ve also included an intriguing piece on the Law Code of Hammurabi, which throws the Law of Moses into high relief. We conclude with some words on the heart.

Free Audio Book: Ezekiel calls out the church

Today we’d like to offer you a book. It’s challenging. It’s prophetic (based on the message of Ezekiel). And it’s available for all website members. (If you’re not yet a member, sign up is both quick inexpensive, and opens up a world of new material not available otherwise.)

For those who prefer to listen, Vicki and I read the audio version (.mp3). There’s no extra charge for her British accent. Or you can read the book (a .pdf file). Note: © materials are not to be shared.

In the 6th century BC the prophet Ezekiel called the people of Judah to return to Yahweh their God. Despite having been redeemed from slavery and enjoying unique status as God's chosen people, the Israelites had been drifting for generations, gradually losing conviction and sensitivity to the word of the Lord.

If this sounds familiar, it should. There are multiple parallels and indications that our modern church has capitulated to worldly thinking and worldly living. Ezekiel sounded the trumpet, boldly summoning God's people to covenant faithfulness and obedience. What about you and me? Will we heed the trumpet call?

This book is free to all website members. (If you’re not a member, please sign up. Your subscription averages out to just 70¢/week.)

Read, or listen—your choice. CLICK HERE for the .pdf and .mp3 files. Website login required. Throughout 2024, website members will receive access to a number of free books. The next volume (a $50 value) will be available in April.

The Law Code of Hammurabi (Caleb Howard)

The history of the ancient world often throws light on the Bible—helping us to appreciate and better understand God’s Word.

A skilled research fellow in Old Testament and Ancient Near East (Tyndale House) considers the enduring fame of one of the oldest written codes of law. He asks how it compares to the laws given to the people of Israel.

The Heart
Finally, for the next few weeks our “cool quotes” relate to the heart. Consider:

  • Wise leaders should have known that the human heart cannot exist in a vacuum. If Christians are forbidden to enjoy the wine of the Spirit they will turn to the wine of the flesh… Christ died for our hearts and the Holy Spirit wants to come and satisfy them. — A. W. Tozer
  • You will never find peace unless you are united with Christ in the very depths of your heart. – Thomas à Kempis
  • If I am worrying, I am not full of wonder; if I am only working, I am far from worship. I will not see glory in the face of another if my heart is full of worry. — Dan B. Allender, Sabbath

Till Next Week…

We appreciate your all messages, prayers, and support. Thanks for reading the newsletter. (And please spread the word so that others may benefit, too!)

In Him,
