To read through the N.T. in a year, what is helpful is to maintain variety. While you could read the first three gospels straight through, for example, they are so similar that it is probably better to alternate gospels and letters.

For example, rather than read from Matthew to Revelation, how about something like this:

Matthew
Romans
John
1-3 John
1-2 Corinthians
Mark
1-2 Peter
Jude
Luke
Acts
Galatians
Ephesians
Philippians
Colossians
1-2 Thessalonians
Revelation
1-2 Timothy
Titus
Philemon
Hebrews
James

Or perhaps group the books by author. Thus:

1. Matthew: Matthew
2. Paul: Romans-Philemon
3. Mark: Mark
4. Hebrew writer: Hebrews
5. James: James
6. Peter: 1-2 Peter
7. Jude: Jude
8. Luke: Luke, Acts
9. John, 1-3 John, Revelation

Often I alternate longer documents with shorter ones. Yet the 17 shorter ones outnumber the 10 longer ones (Matthew-2 Corinthians, Hebrews, Revelation), so how about this:

John
James
Matthew
1-2 Peter
Romans
1-3 John
Hebrews
Galatians-Ephesians
Acts
Jude
Philippians-Colossians
Luke
1-2 Thessalonians
Romans
1-2 Timothy
1-2 Corinthians
Titus
Philemon
Revelation

Another approach might be to read through the N.T. chronologically. That plan would look something like this:

James
Galatians
1-2 Thessalonians
1 Corinthians
Romans
2 Corinthians
Ephesians-Colossians, Philemon
1 Timothy
Mark
1-2 Peter
2 Timothy-Titus
Hebrews
Luke & Acts
Matthew
1-3 John
Jude
Revelation
