My question is regarding how we (disciples) should respond to a person (relative) when he/she says that Jesus has died for all our sins (past, present, and future) and therefore they are saved. This kind of comment totally disregards repentance and makes it seem like everyone is saved without any effort. What I am looking for here is a straightforward answer that does not take much preaching, especially in the instance that this situation involves a relative (a parent). -- Leonardo (São Paulo)
I would use verses that without too much interpretation "lay it out," making it obvious that there is more to salvation than the fact than Jesus died on the cross for us. Consider the following passages chosen among the hundreds potentially useful to refute the "broad road" view of Jesus:
* Without holiness no one will see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14).
* Source of eternal salvation for all who obey him (Hebrews 5:9).
* Make every effort (Luke 13:24).
