What do you think Matthew 11:13 means? If all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John, why is the revelation in the Bible? -- Belov (Moscow)
I was reading this very passage the morning I received your e-mail! Revelation from God continued until the New Testament was completed, most likely somewhere between 69 and 96 AD. John is usually recognized as the last of the old covenant prophets, strictly speaking. Jesus in this passage is accentuating the fact that with his message, something new is happening; and the Old Testament (Law and Prophets) point and lead to Christ and his message. Here is a nutshell picture of biblical revelation, with approximate dates:
1400 BC...................750-450 BC......................28 AD.................48-96 AD
LAW..........................PROPHETS.......................JOHN...............New Testament
