Isn't the Big Bang Theory against the Bible?
Not at all! In fact, there is much in the Big Bang theory that agrees with the Bible! This theory, formulated in the first half of the 20th century, suggests that space and time had an actual beginning. Though the theory is complex, its simplicity is astounding: everything that we see all began in a single moment in the distant past. This includes mass, energy, space and time. In the Big Bang, as has often been noted, science and theology converge.
Before the theory was proposed -- and for which empirical confirmation came only in 1965 -- most scientists supposed the universe was infinitely old. Yet Big Bang shows us that the universe has a beginning. And what is before this beginning? Nothing -- except God! (And I say, if he chose to bring the cosmos into existence through a well-designed explosion, that is his business.)
