I've talked to many people who say that you cannot be sure of your salvation. They say that only God knows and we'll just have to see at the end. I always thought God wants us to be confident about our salvation but I can't seem to find where in the Bible it might say that. Could you point me in the right direction so I could show them?
Try 1 John 5:13. In fact there are many passages in 1 John that will help your friends know what the Bible teaches. Confidence in our salvation is confidence in the power of Jesus to save us, not confidence of our own righteousness or commitment. Of course we must not mistake arrogance for confidence, but it remains true that without confidence, every area of our lives will be adversely affected.
