Paul told Timothy, "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers..." (1 Timothy 4:12). Is there any way we can estimate Timothy's approximate age at this time? -- Johnny Rivera

Let's assume Timothy was 20 years old when Paul recruited him in Acts 16. This is around the year 49 AD, based on N.T. chronology. If 1 Timothy was written in the 60s -- let's say 63 AD -- then Timothy was in his mid-thirties when Paul urged him to set an example for the older believers. This makes sense, as in Jewish culture even a man in his 30s was still considered a youth.
