I am a disciple in the Middle East and I just wanted to ask about 1 Corinthians 7:36-37. Was Paul talking about a man who decided not to marry because he wanted to serve God or a man who has already married but decides not to have a sexual relationship with his wife? -- Bashar
Most commentators believe the man is engaged but not yet married; he is considering whether to remain single or take up married life. Others read the passage as advising a father whether or not to "marry off" his daughter. Either view is possible based on the Greek language and grammar of the passage.
