I bought and am taking Methoxygen, a legal sports drug that has steroid like effects, and there are no harsh side effects. It is expensive -- $75/month. I use it because I can get bigger faster, plus I don't have time to lift 4-6 times per week. Am I in sin? -- Gregg Jr.
Interesting question. (I can't help wondering, though, did someone tell you you were in sin?) I do not think this is necessarily a matter of right versus wrong, though it is probably a matter of wisdom.
These would be some of the questions I'd ask myself:
- Am I sure that methoxyflavone has no harsh side effects? long-term damage?
- Do I have $900 a year to spend on bodybuilding supplements?
- Why do I need to become "big" -- is this how I support my family?
- Does my behavior cause others to stumble in their faith?
- Might my use of drugs damage my Christian witness?
- Why can't I work out like those who don't use sports drugs?
- Am I more committed to bodybuilding than to building "spiritual muscles" (1 Timothy 4:8).
The possible sins in this case: impatience, poor stewardship, vanity, causing others to stumble, etc. You will need to decide whether you think you are "in sin." Study the scriptures.
