There is a scripture that says we can cause a little one to stumble. Yet I was under the impression that each person is responsible for his/her sin. How can this be true without contradicting this principle? Also, does "little ones" refer to little children or to those weak in the faith -- or both?
I think the passage (Matthew 18:6 et par) refers primarily to adults, but its application to children as well seems justified. The answer to your question entails the principle of influence. Through bad influence, one can weaken another's resistance. The sin committed by the weaker person is still a freewill decision. And yet God holds both persons accountable--the sinner and the one who led him or her to sin.
