I have the opportunity to either take an Attic Greek or a Latin class at the University of Florida. I am interested in learning Greek and Hebrew (for the obvious reasons). Is there any reason I should take Latin? Should I take Attic Greek if I'm just going to learn it later at seminary? -- Zachary Harned
Attic Greek is excellent preparation for Koine Greek at seminary. You will not learn classical Greek in seminary. But it helps a lot with Hebrews, Luke-Acts, and the grammar in general. (Because it is more complex than Koine, the extra preparation is superb training.)
Latin is also good but will not directly help your appreciation of the NT. I love Latin (having studied 5 years, including in a year of Medieval Latin in graduate school, and still use it to this day), but the pay-offs are indirect or secondary.
