Was John present during Jesus Crucifixion? Where is it in the Bible? After Jesus was arrested in Gethsemane, where did James and John go? Can you give me book, chapter and verse? -- Aurora B.
Throughout John's gospel, the writer refers to himself as "disciple whom Jesus loved." See 13:23, 19:26, 20:2, 21:7, and 21:20. Many commentators take 18:15 as referring to John also.
In narrative, ancient writers normally referred to themselves in the third person. (This is not true of personal letters, of course.)
Putting it all together, we conclude that John went into the courtyard of the high priest after Jesus' arrest, followed, though at a greater distance, by Peter. John was also present at the crucifixion, and it was into his care that Jesus committed his own mother (19:26-27).
