I have a question regarding a teaching I've heard about who the children of God are. It has been said that we are all children of God but have been separated because of damage (sin). However, I have yet to discover this teaching in the scripture... I have discovered rather that it is only those who receive Jesus who are given "the right to become" children of God. Is it accurate to share with others (including the lost) that we are all children of God -- or were so at one time? -- Craig Wademan (Toronto)
I think God is Father in two senses:
1. The father of mankind (Acts 17) -- whether or not we have come to know him.
2. The father of those who believe (Galatians 3:26-27, 4:6).
So everyone is a child of God, in one sense, but not necessarily in the saved sense.
