I am been reading the books of Samuel and have a question for you. The ephod was to be worn only by the high priest to discern the will of God in matters relating to Israel. In 2 Samuel 6:14 David was wearing the ephod, so why was he not punished for this sin? -- Wayne Taylor
An ephod was apparently a garment worn by priests (1 Samuel 22:18). But the ephod--to wear which was the special prerogative of the high priest--was different. In the case of the high priest (Exodus 28:6-14, 31-35), the means of obtaining divine guidance, the Urim and Thummim, were sewn into the garment (Exodus 28:30). David was not wearing that garment.
