Working as a call center agent is one of the most common jobs here in our country today. Some companies have a policy to say we're in the United States, when in fact we are not. Is it a sin to follow the company's policy, since it's a form of lying to our callers? Your answer will be a big help. -- C.T. (India)
I know that companies are only trying to make it easier for customers, to relate to their clients and build trust. Yet I think you must not go along with any policy that requires misrepresenting the truth. If people ask you where you are, tell them.
When I am redirected to India or the Philippines, as happens more and more in these days of outsourcing, I do not care where the person is I am speaking to. What matters to me is his or her competence.
Say what you need to, but do not lie!
