Is the Old Testament word covet essentially the same thing as lust in the New Testament? I noticed the words are used in different ways, depending on the context -- yet the root seems the same. Is lust what God speaking about in the Ten Commandments when he warns us about not "coveting?" -- Jason Reichert
Khamad is covet in the OT. The LXX (Greek version of the OT) renders it by epithumein, the nominal form of which, epithumia, is the NT word. So these are practical synonyms. You are on the right track.
