Is life insurance, or any other form of insurance, Biblical? Someone told me it is not because it is usury. Also, what about networking or recruiting people for the purpose of earning residual income from other people? My conviction says that, "networking can conflict with disciples of Jesus Christ making disciples of all nations." What is your advice, according to God's word, as I pursue a career as a life insurance advisor?
Usury is defined, at least in part, as "the lending of money at exorbitant interest rates" (Merriam-Webster). So maybe if the interest is truly excessive selling insurance could be considered usury. Jesus taught against putting our hope in earthly preparation instead of in God, not against preparation itself (e.g., Luke 12:13-21). Many disciples make an honest living as financial advisors, including insurance.
As for networking, you will need to follow your own conviction. I know people who have tried network marketing and discovered that, while network marketing is not inherently wrong, they found themselves wrestling with the same concept you mention: with each person you meet, do you share your faith or try to build your business? It seems you cannot really do both effectively.
If you do want to pursue a career as an insurance advisor, you may want, if at all possible, to start part time with an additional source of income, so as to alleviate the pressure of needing to grow your insurance business as quickly as possible.
